This video of a trolley car moving through lower Manhattan (posted on youtube) made me realize that such streetcars make more sense than cars. So why did they get ripped out? Such a waste of a infrastructure that was obviously a big project to install. I am sure the story of that destruction is not a pretty one. Below, you will also see a trolley car map of the Brooklyn trolley network, posted by a this great blog: http://www.startsandfits.com. Trolleys once covered Brooklyn and Manhattan. Let’s bring them back! And let’s start with Canal and Broome Streets. When I walk to Soho I cross a veritable sea of traffic on Canal Street, and then again on Broome. It would be so wonderful if those people were all on trolleys instead. How much more civilized our life in Lower Manhattan would be.
